In this episode of Community, IRL with my bestie Maria, we’re sharing five of the biggest lessons we’ve learned from running hundreds of events over the years. From intimate dinners and retreats to 200-person experiences, online events, and most recently our yacht mastermind, we’ve learned a lot about what makes an event truly impactful.

Events have always been such an important part of how Maria and I build community, and in this conversation we’re sharing the things that have worked, the lessons we’ve learned the hard way, and what we’re continuing to improve as High Vibe Women grows.

  • Bigger isn’t always better, and we’ve learned that creating different-sized experiences gives our community more opportunities to connect in the way that works best for them.
  • Real-time event content has become a game changer for us because it captures the energy in the room, creates excitement for attendees, and builds FOMO for the people following along from home.
  • Strong partnerships come from creating a true win-win, so we always ask how we can make a collaboration a “slam dunk” for both us and the brand or partner involved.
  • The more information we give attendees before an event, the less confusion and admin there is, which is why we’ve become much more intentional about creating one central place for schedules, FAQs, venue details, resources, and everything else they need.
  • The energy we bring into the room matters, and we’ve seen firsthand that showing up authentically, leading with integrity, and genuinely caring about the people we serve helps attract the kind of community we want to build.

After running so many events, one of our biggest takeaways is that there will always be something new to learn. Every event gives us another opportunity to listen to feedback, drop our egos, make changes, and create an even better experience the next time.

If you’re hosting events, thinking about creating one, or simply looking for ways to build a stronger community around your business, I hope these lessons help you learn some of these things the easy way instead of the hard way like we did.
